Market Hall Produce provides the freshest and most distinctive local produce to the East Bay's discerning customers. We pride ourselves on our outstanding selection of organic and conventional fruits & vegetables. We think of produce in terms of our surroundings, always striving to bring locally grown product into our customers' hands. California produce is shipped all over the world and we are lucky to have it right in our own backyard. We like to shop with only one thought in mind: "fresh is best". Whatever is in season and looks beautiful, that's what we like to take home.
Anyone who lives in the Rockridge area, or has passed through the Rockridge BART station in North Oakland, is sure to notice Market Hall. The developers of Market Hall, siblings Sara, Tony and Peter Wilson, wanted to give the Bay area an alternative to the weekly treks to the supermarket, so they pooled their talents and developed the only European style market place in the Bay area. Recognizable for its unique architectural design as well as the eight individual food and flower shops open to the sidewalk, Market Hall is a bustling cornerstone to the very unique, active, and alluring Rockridge district.
We're proud to be a part of local communities, and our customers can always count on us for great prices on the freshest produce and meat, plus thousands of everyday lower prices down every aisle. Customers can order anytime from their home or office, or order on-the-go using our mobile app.
It all started in the 50s... Would you believe we started out as a small chain of convenience stores? It's true. Way back in 1958. We were called Pronto Markets. In '67, our founder, the original Trader Joe, changed our name (yes, to Trader Joe's) and the way we do business.
We made the stores bigger (if you can imagine), decked the walls with cedar planks and donned our crew in cool Hawaiian shirts. Most importantly, we started putting innovative, hard-to-find, great-tasting foods in the "Trader Joe's" name. That cut our costs and saved you money. Still does.

Emily P. says on Yelp: "They say you find love when you are not looking for it or when you least expect it. I had given up. After weeks of phone calls, looking and pining, there it was. Red bean mochi ice cream. I had given up my search and was just walking around, living my life when I stumbled upon it, looking quaint and expectant in the corner of Yasai Market, tucked away in the freezer section waiting to be found. Needless to say red bean mochi ice cream is hard to find. They also have regular red bean ice cream and litchi sorbet which I will be back for if the mochi does not work out.
Good selection of miso soups and Asian noodles. Makes me wanna make a miso ramen. They also have some prepared foods like fresh spring rolls and pad thai."

For nearly 30 years, Market Hall Foods (formerly The Pasta Shop) has served as the East Bay's source for the best specialty groceries, the tastiest prepared foods, the finest cheeses and gifts of food.
Our buyers, chefs and cheesemongers are always working to ensure we're sharing nothing but the best with our customers. If we have to travel to the groves of an olive oil producer, the fields of a chicken farmer or the pastures of a cheesemaker, we will do it to be sure you know where our products come from.
We Changed Our Name - The Pasta Shop is now Market Hall Foods - August 2016
Originally named The Pasta Shop after the fresh pasta and ravioli the store made daily (and still does), in 2016 the nationally recognized specialty food store changed it's name to Market Hall Foods. Now, Market Hall Foods encompasses two retails stores in Oakland and Berkeley, as well as the online shop, markethallfoods.com.
The first Market Hall Foods opened in 1987 inside the European-style market place, Rockridge Market Hall. Then in 1996, a new location was opened at the 4th Street Shopping District in Berkeley. Then, an e-commerce site, selling a curated selection of ingredients from the shops, was launched in 2005.
The brand name The Pasta Shop still exists and the fresh pasta, ravioli and sauces the company makes are sold at our retail and online shops, as well as at the San Francisco Farmers Market, GoodEggs.com, many markets throughout the Bay Area, and is also served at over 200 restaurants.
All these businesses are still owned and operated by the Wilson family, siblings Sara, Tony and Peter. In 2017, Market Hall Foods & The Pasta Shop will celebrate 30 years.
Ann D. on Yelp says: "Eddie's is no mere package store, it's a first-rate place to buy liquor
and more. A bit of everything liquor-related, lots of interesting beers,
good prices, good snacks, basic stuff like milk and eggs and even
several kinds of top quality ice cream. Friendly service and an ATM with
a very small surcharge if you need cash. Sure, you can drive across
town to BevMo and pay less, but then you've burned fossil fuels and
supported a megachain. Shop at Eddie's instead-our neighborhoods need
more places like this."
We carry European and domestic wines, with an emphasis on distinctive French, Italian, German, Austrian, Spanish, and Californian producers. The majority of our wines are $6 to $25 bottles for everyday drinking, but we also carry plenty of top wines from around the world, including Burgundy, Barolo, Tuscany, Rioja, and California. We taste and personally select everything in the store in order to bring you the highest quality, most authentic, and best value wines from these regions. Because we're part of the Market Hall, we emphasize food-friendly wines. We're always happy to share our enthusiasm for wine and food with you and help you select wines that will best match your meal (or vice versa). Whatever your budget and preferences, stop by the store and ask us to recommend some wines.
Alured P. on Yelp says: "A small but nice selection, doesn't have the cheap mass produced wines but rather a selection of good wines with a range of prices. Seems to have all the major bases covered. Staff was friendly and helpful. The monthly specials looked interesting... if I lived closer I would have to visit here again."
